John Higgins opened up his winners’ group campaign with three victories from three in a bid to secure fifth BetVictor Championship League Snooker title in Leicester.
John Higgins sits in pole position after an opening day in the winners’ group of BetVictor Championship League Snooker, dropping just three frames across his opening three matches.
The world number 10 began his day with a tough battle against Essex’s Stuart Bingham, a match that went all the way and saw Higgins make a break of 61 in the decider to secure the win.
It was a clash of four-time world champions in his second match when facing Leicester’s very own Mark Selby who had started his day with an emphatic 3-0 win over Joe O’Connor.
Despite making the match high-break of 91 in the second frame, Selby fell to a 3-1 defeat against Higgins, with the Scot making breaks of 53 and 87 to secure his second victory of the group.
The Wizard of Wishaw faced off against group seven winner Joe O’Connor, and cruised to a 3-0 win with breaks of 70, 49, and 96 to complete an unbeaten day to sit as the overnight group leader.
