Late replacement Jak Jones made his mark in group seven, winning all four of his matches including a whitewash victory over world number one Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Jak Jones made the perfect start to his BetVictor Championship League Snooker campaign, after only receiving the call he was in the tournament 24 hours prior.
The world number 40 began his day with a comfortable 3-0 win over group six finalist Pang Junxu, a match-high break of 72 helping him enroute to victory.
Jones then faced Elliot Slessor in his next match, and was taken to a deciding frame to cement his second win of the group, breaks of 79 and 40 enough to get the job done.
In what most would expect his toughest test to be, Jones took down the 7-time world champion and world number one Ronnie O’Sullivan in a superb 3-0 whitewash of the Rocket. A joint-group high break of 129 from Jones in the opener his best effort of the day.
Fresh off of his best win of the day, Jones followed up with another 3-0 whitewash, this time coming against the struggling Sam Craigie. It capped off an excellent day for the Welshman which saw him lose just two frames across four matches.
