Selt, who reached his third group final of the tournament last night got the better of Joe Perry in his opening match 3-0 before Xiao Guodong 3-1 with a clearance of 126 in the third frame helping him along the way. The Essex cueist completed his day from 2-1 to defeat Anthony McGill with a contribution of 128 in the fourth to help along the way.

Zhou Yuelong is hot on Selt’s tail with three wins from four matches with points secured against Xiao, Robert Milkins, and Neil Robertson whilst McGill took two points from four. Xiao also sits on two points to keep things tightly knit going into day two of the group.

For Perry and Robertson, plenty of work will need to be done to avoid being eliminated with the former getting a win on the board against Milkins. Robertson on the other hand is yet to record a point. Milkins meanwhile got the better of Robertson in a high-scoring contest that breaks of over 50 in all five frames.

BetVictor Championship League Snooker Invitational sees each of the seven players face each other once in the round-robin group stage, after which the top four players in the league table progress to the group play-offs. The eventual group champion advances to February’s Winners’ Group with the remaining players who finished in the top five during the league phase continuing to Group Seven which begins on 27, February when three new players join the tournament. The bottom two players in each group phase are eliminated. All matches are best of five.

The tournament carries a prize fund of £205,000 with players earning £100 per frame won with significant bonuses for their final group position and increased prize money in the Winners’ Group. A place in the 2023 Champion of Champions is also on the line with each group featuring seven players with matches being held over two days.
