UNBEATEN WILSON TOPS GROUP SIX AFTER OPENING DAY AT BETVICTOR CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE SNOOKER

Invitational February 26th, 2024

Former BetVictor Championship League Snooker winner Kyren Wilson remained unbeaten in the opening day of action in group six in Leicester.

Championship League Snooker returned after a two-week break on Monday, as Kyren Wilson featured in his third group of the tournament, and set off in emphatic action against the rest of the group.

The world number 11 opened his account with a comfortable 3-1 win over one of the late call-ups to group in Sam Craigie, with breaks of 94, 106, and 65 to complete the job.

Wilson then followed up his earlier win with a hard-fought 3-2 win over China’s Fan Zhengyi. A scrappy affair that saw the former champion make just a match-high break of 36 in the deciding frame.

An excellent closing match from Wilson saw him complete a perfect day of snooker with a 3-2 win over the impressive Elliot Slessor who, after back-to-back century breaks of 100 and 133, saw the Warrior fire back with a group-high break of 140.

The lengthiest frame of the match came in the decider, and breaks of 31 and 35 ultimately providing enough to seal the victory and unblemished record of Wilson’s.

Elsewhere in the group, Leicester’s very own Joe O’Connor sits in third after winning two of his four matches played in his Championship League Snooker Invitational debut.

O’Connor will face group leader Wilson in what could be a crucial fixture in his final match tomorrow, with a place in the group semi finals at stake.

Play resumes from 11am on Tuesday, with fans able to view the action on Matchroom.live in the United Kingdom.
