World No.1 Judd Trump booked his spot in February’s Winners’ Week with a group six final victory over Joe O’Connor at BetVictor Championship League Snooker Invitational.
O’Connor and Trump were the standouts of the group stage, with the former winning every single fixture – including a 3-1 win over the World No.1 earlier in the day.
The Leicester-native O’Connor displayed his dominance across two days of action with wins in every single fixture, dropping just two frames in the process. His prowess earned him a semi-final against Noppon Saengkham, who had finished third in the group with a 3-3 record.
Trump’s path to the final saw him finish second in the group stage, falling only to O’Connor and David Gilbert in the league phase. It was Gilbert who he exacted revenge upon though in the evening, beating the Farmer with breaks of 65, 89 and 93.
In the final fixture of the day, Trump really showed his class with three centuries in three frames to seal a spot in February’s Winners’ Group and a chance to add even more silverware to a stellar season.
Jak Jones continues his mean-streak of form at BetVictor Championship League Invitational with a 32nd century, extending the WST tournament record, and with a fifth-placed finish confirmed, he’ll have the chance to increase even further in the final group.
Tom Ford and Jack Lisowski leave the competition after finishing in the bottom two places with just one win each, though Lisowski was close to taking the £500 highest break prize after missing the final black for a maximum.
O’Connor, Saengkham, Gilbert and Jones advance to Group Seven, where they will join Xiao Guodong, Zhou Yuelong and Ricky Walden. The action resumes tomorrow, Friday, 24th January, as the final seven players compete for a the last spot in the Winners’ Group.
